For people who are interested in fashion and playing with their look, getting gel nails done in Japan is a must-try experience.
Unlike a regular manicure, gel nails and art can last for up to 6 weeks. You can get any design imaginable, from a basic lame’ gradation (where the tips of your nails are dusted with glitter) to full on sculpted nails which can extend for several centimeters.
While gel nails have become available in some large US/EU cities, the level of artistry and availability in Japan is very high. Pretty much anywhere you go there will be a nail salon, making it a great rainy day activity.
Depending on the complexity of the design, the appointment will be anything from 40 minutes to a couple hours long. Often there will be special deals, with certain design sets costing a flat fee. Prices vary from 3000 yen to over 10,000, depending on location and the work involved.
I highly recommend the experience, but be careful! It is totally addictive!
